Trusts & Estates Administrators

Julie E. Scala

Julie is a trusts and estates administrator with the firm, focusing primarily on estate and trust administration, including probate fiduciary accountings, estate and fiduciary tax return preparation, and estate tax returns.  Julie also administers life insurance trusts for our clients. Before joining LeBlanc & Young in 2015, Julie spent 15 years in administration with a major telecommunications company. She is a 1996 graduate of the University of Maine, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and a 1998 graduate of the University of Arizona, where she received a Master of Science degree in Physiological Sciences.  In her free time she enjoys playing sports of all kinds and spending time with her family.

Probate Court Proceedings & Special Projects Paralegal

Irene M. Tower

Irene’s primary paralegal duties include drafting and editing estate planning documents. She has worked in the legal field since 1984, with a primary focus in estate planning and probate. Irene earned her paralegal certificate in 1995 from the University of California Santa Cruz Extension, where she later served on the faculty, teaching estate planning and probate. She served on the Executive Board of Santa Cruz County Legal Professionals Association for over 10 years and was Probate Examiner for Santa Cruz County Superior Court from 1998 until moving to Maine in 2003. Irene spends as much time as possible outdoors and enjoys long early morning walks and hikes.

Legal Secretaries

Barbara E. Hunt

Barb is a legal secretary with the firm, and has been a professional secretary since 1979. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, she worked as a Judicial Secretary for the Maine Supreme Court, as Executive Secretary to the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at Saint Joseph’s College, and as a legal secretary at a large Portland law firm.

Barbara has served as Chair of Lake Region High School’s Project Graduation Committee, and coached girls’ softball in Naples for several years.

Legal Assistants

Anne Rogers

Anne is a legal assistant with the firm. Most recently, she has worked as a paralegal in premises liability defense law and as a legal assistant in intellectual property & trademark law (with an 8 year diversion in the middle to run an independent beverage consultancy). A new resident to Maine, Anne spent the last decade in Berlin, Germany and Edinburgh, Scotland, but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She enjoys putting her Art History and Brewing & Distilling degrees to good use by visiting local galleries, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries in the greater Portland area.

Sophia Carter

Sophie Carter

Sophie is a legal assistant with the firm.  Originally from Rhode Island, Sophie graduated from Boston College with degrees in philosophy and political science.  She has prior experience as a paralegal/legal assistant in state and local tax and employment law, assisting with state tax filings and client service.  Sophie additionally writes in her spare time, working as a freelance legal content writer for law firms across the country.  Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Maine’s beaches and restaurants, reading, and taking weekly trips to the movie theater.

Receptionist & Administrative Assistant

Tonya Moore

Tonya is the firm’s Receptionist and Administrative Assistant. She is eager to meet the needs of our clients and staff with her previous experience supporting small businesses, startups, and large corporations. Tonya is a registered Yoga teacher and outdoor enthusiast invested in living life proactively while helping others in the community.

Office Manager

Laurie is the firm’s Office Manager.  She graduated summa cum laude from Bryant University and spent 30+ years as a CPA in Connecticut, focusing on small business consulting and advisory services along with individual and corporate tax compliance.  Her love for animals also led her to work as a farm hand and veterinary technician while maintaining her tax practice.

Laurie grew up vacationing in Old Orchard Beach and relocated there permanently in 2018 after her three children were grown and she had sold her tax practice.

Being an outdoor enthusiast, Laurie enjoys all that Maine has to offer for recreation, including skiing, hiking and bike riding.

Laurie Aberizk
