Fiduciary Services Administrator

Karen Hart, CPA, MST

Karen M. Hart, CPA, MST

Karen is responsible for coordinating the firm’s fiduciary services, including estate and trust administration and all tax returns. Karen graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, earned her Master of Science degree in Taxation from Thomas College, and received her CPA certificate in 1999. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, Karen worked for over 25 years in public accounting. Karen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Karen is a member of the board of trustees for Mercy Hospital, and is a board member and past president of the Maine Estate Planning Council.

Trusts and Estates Paralegals

Taryn Adams

Taryn K. Adams

Taryn is a paralegal with the firm, focusing primarily on estate and trust administration, including probate fiduciary accountings, estate and fiduciary tax return preparation, and estate tax returns.

Taryn has worked in public and private accounting since 1984. She was a trust officer at H. M. Payson & Co., and then worked at Monahan Associates before joining LeBlanc & Young. Taryn graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at Valparaiso University and received a Masters of Arts degree from The Ohio State University. She earned her CPA certificate in 1984 and in 2006 obtained the designation of Certified Trust and Financial Advisor.

Sandra Chipman

Sandra L. Chipman

Sandy is a paralegal with the firm, focusing primarily on estate and trust administration, including preparation of estate and fiduciary tax returns and estate tax returns. In addition, Sandy handles preparation of deeds and business entity documentation, and maintenance of corporate, LLC and partnership record books for our clients.

Sandy is a 1995 graduate of Andover College in Portland, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting, and a 1989 graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. She has worked in the legal field since 1990.

Julie E. Scala

Julie’s duties include estate and trust administration, with a focus on administering life insurance trusts and estate and trust accountings. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, Julie worked most recently in the telecommunications industry for over 15 years. She is a graduate of the University of Maine and the University of Arizona with degrees in health-related fields.

Julie is an avid runner and cyclist who can be found participating in and volunteering at races throughout Southern Maine.

Estate Planning Paralegal

Kristin P. Barry

Kristin is a paralegal with the firm, focusing primarily on the drafting of estate planning documents.

Before moving back to her native Maine, Kristin practiced law for five years in Washington, D.C., focusing on advertising and marketing law. Kristin is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Georgetown University Law Center and is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and Maryland. A long-time competitive distance runner, Kristin coaches youth cross country in Scarborough and boys and girls cross country at Cheverus High School.

Probate Court Proceedings and Special Projects Paralegal

Irene Tower

Irene M. Tower

Irene’s paralegal duties include conservatorships, guardianships, MaineCare planning, formal Probate Court proceedings including modifications, interpretations and other disputes, legal research, and special projects. She has worked in the legal field since 1984, with a primary focus in estate planning and probate.

Irene earned her paralegal certificate in 1995 from the University of California Santa Cruz Extension, where she later served on the faculty, teaching estate planning and probate. She served on the Executive Board of Santa Cruz County Legal Professionals Association for over 10 years, and was Probate Examiner for Santa Cruz County Superior Court from 1998 until moving to Maine in 2003.

Controller

Tara Weller

Tara A. Weller

Tara is the firm’s Controller, and is involved in the financial management, human resources, technology planning and operations of the firm. Tara graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and received her CPA certificate in 2001. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, Tara spent 8 years in public accounting.

Tara is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Legal Administrators.

Legal Secretaries

Barbara Hunt

Barbara E. Hunt

Barb is a legal secretary with the firm, and has been a professional secretary since 1979. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, she worked as a Judicial Secretary for the Maine Supreme Court, as Executive Secretary to the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at Saint Joseph’s College, and as a legal secretary at a large Portland law firm.

Barbara has served as Chair of Lake Region High School’s Project Graduation Committee, and coached girls’ softball in Naples for several years.

Teresa Stevens

Teresa A. Stevens

Terri is a legal secretary with the firm, and has worked in the legal field for over 25 years. Prior to joining LeBlanc & Young, Terri worked most recently at a Portland law firm for over 15 years, with a focus on corporate law and estate planning.

Terri is passionate about our environment and the well-being of animals.

Jeffrey P. Huot

Jeff joined LeBlanc & Young in January 2016. Jeff has been serving as a legal assistant in the greater Portland area for 13 years, most recently as a litigation assistant in the field of foreclosure law. Jeff graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Legal Studies from Andover College in June 2003, and was honored to receive the President’s Cup at graduation.

When not working, Jeff enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.

Receptionist

Kacy C. Woodworth

As the firm’s receptionist, Kacy is the welcoming face of LeBlanc & Young. Before joining the firm full-time in 2017, Kacy worked as interim receptionist and support staff. Kacy is often the first person you speak with or see upon calling or visiting, and prides herself on treating all clients with the same level of compassion, respect and kindness.

When not at LeBlanc & Young, you can find Kacy working with theater companies across Greater Portland and Maine.
