Who We Are

Established in February 1995, LeBlanc & Young is a specialty law firm located in Portland, Maine, with a statewide practice devoted exclusively to estate planning, the administration of trusts and estates, and related areas of law.

This includes drafting wills, trusts of all types, powers of attorney, health care directives and proxies; addressing tax and federal and state law issues associated with the administration of estates and revocable and irrevocable trusts; and resolving legal issues associated with private foundations, special needs trusts, elder law, adoptions, business succession planning, and estate, gift, generation skipping, and income tax planning.

Our attorneys and support staff endeavor to provide clients with timely, superior legal services after a thoughtful process, at a reasonable cost. We carefully review our clients’ family and financial circumstances, their tax position and other concerns, to develop and implement strategies to achieve their objectives and minimize tax exposure. The attorneys at LeBlanc & Young often develop long-standing professional relationships with clients, their families and associated professional advisors, facilitating a meaningful dialogue to identify pertinent issues and implement strategic solutions.

Our attorneys are a diverse group who use their depth of experience and collective judgment to best serve our clients through easy collaboration within the office. Dick LeBlanc (recently retired), Jay Young, Elizabeth High, and Justin LeBlanc are Fellows of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and Abby Diggins is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA), professional organizations that signify recognized expertise in the chosen area of practice.

Serving the community is a commitment that is very important to us in our professional and private lives, and each attorney is active in the community, serving on the boards of a wide range of charitable and civic organizations. We are also active in professional activities that focus on assuring that Maine laws and the legal process relating to the trusts and estates practice remain current and responsive to the needs of Maine’s citizens. Our lawyers have assumed leadership roles in many recent efforts to review and revise pertinent state laws. Dick and Elizabeth were selected as the Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year for 2011 and 2012, respectively, by Best Lawyers, an honor that goes to only one lawyer in Portland, Maine each year. Elizabeth has been selected again for this honor for 2016.
